Megumi Takashima | "The Logic of the World: Art of Our Time (Part 2)"
Summary
In this second part of a review on the exhibition at the National Museum of Modern Art, Kyoto, Megumi Takashima explores the works of Emiko Kasahara and Chie Matsui. Kasahara’s "OFFERING" series deconstructs the female body into a vessel that receives currency through "holes," highlighting the paradox between sacred saintliness and the misogynistic objectification of women. Complementing this, Chie Matsui’s "LABOUR" series makes the female figure invisible, critiquing the lack of compensation for domestic care labor and the burden placed on women and minorities to constantly explain their positions. Together, their works reveal the deep-seated structural inequalities and conflicting perceptions of women in society and art.
