In celebration of its 50th anniversary, the SOMPO Museum of Art has opened the "Eugène Boudin Exhibition: Aesthetics of the Moment, Exploration of Light." Featuring 114 works across eight thematic sections, the exhibition highlights the diverse artistry of Eugène Boudin, a pioneer of Impressionism who famously encouraged Claude Monet to paint outdoors.
This exhibition marks the first comprehensive showcase of Boudin's work in Japan in roughly 30 years. Curator Sakurako Okasaka notes that the exhibition aims to re-examine the role of Impressionism 150 years after its inception, offering visitors a chance to experience the full scope of Boudin's talent beyond his reputation as a mere "marine painter."
