Special Exhibition "150th Anniversary of Birth Commemoration: Kimurabuzan Exhibition"
Summary
This exhibition commemorates the 150th anniversary of the birth of Kimurabuzan (1876–1942), a Japanese painter from Kasama City, Ibaraki Prefecture. Having studied under Okakura Tenshin and participated in the founding of the Japan Fine Arts Academy, he later moved to Goryu with Yokoyama Taikan and others. The exhibition will showcase approximately 60 excellent works, including masterpieces, pieces rarely exhibited before, and works whose whereabouts were long unknown, divided into early and late periods focusing on different themes. Special attention is given to his late-period Buddhist paintings, which marked a new artistic frontier, revealing his deep faith and high skill. Furthermore, the altarpiece housed in Kasama Dainichi-do, considered the culmination of Buzan's art, will be specially displayed. The exhibition runs from February 11 to April 19, 2026.
