High-definition replicas of Ito Jakuchu's National Treasure "Doshoku Sai-e" are created and will be exhibited at the Tokyo National Museum's Hyokeikan
Summary
Canon and the National Institutes for Cultural Heritage have produced high-definition replicas of the National Treasure "Doshoku Sai-e" (Colors of Living Things) by Ito Jakuchu. The 30-scroll masterpiece, created during the mid-Edo period, will be exhibited at the Hyokeikan of the Tokyo National Museum from April 17 to May 17. The replicas were produced using the "Tsuzuri Project" technology, which combines Canon's imaging capabilities with traditional Kyoto craftsmanship to faithfully capture the original brushwork and vivid mineral pigments. This exhibition marks the first time these works have been displayed at the Hyokeikan in roughly 100 years, with the scrolls rotated in two phases, accompanied by a replica of Kano Eitoku's "Chinese Lions" folding screen.
