Five Next-Generation Artists Selected for "THE TOYOTA TSUSHO CFAO African Art Award"
Summary
Toyota Tsusho Corporation and CFAO have announced the first winners of "THE TOYOTA TSUSHO CFAO African Art Award (AAA)," an international award supporting young artists in Africa. The award aims to shape the future of Africa through the power of art, focusing on discovering and nurturing young talents and creating opportunities for international exposure. The selection process involved 35 curators and critics from around the world, initially choosing 12 candidates from approximately 100 applicants. A final decision was made by a ten-member international jury including Richard Bielle (CFAO President), Ichihiro Kashitani (Toyota Tsusho Vice Chairman), Yuko Hasegawa (Curator, Art Critic, former Director of the 21st Century Museum of Kanazawa), and Chris Dercon (Curator, Museum Director, Managing Director of the Fondation Cartier pour l'art contemporain). The award is designed as a platform to support the continuous career development of the winners through exhibitions and production support. The winning works will be exhibited starting in June 2026 at the Palais de Lomé in Togo, followed by tours in Japan and France.
