Tomakomai City Museum of Art
Summary
The Tomakomai City Museum of Art will present Akio Morisako’s new installation, “Court Installation,” as the 22nd installment in the “Court Installation” series, from April 18 to November 23, 2026. Inspired by nature, the cycle of life, and Jomon artifacts, the work is based on a “Yagura” constructed from discarded daily necessities and driftwood. Combined with the earthen figures adorning the courtyard corridor, the venue will be filled with a festive energy. The artist attempts to awaken a primordial “Jomon perspective” within us by breathing new life into objects deemed “trash” in modern society. Concurrent exhibitions, including “The Beginning Volcano: Naoki Ishikawa Exhibition” and “Discover! Tarumae Mountain – Nature Encountered on Hiking Trails,” and a special exhibition “Shiko Munakata – Prayers to the North” will also be held during the period.
