【Tokyo】University of Tokyo Arsnova to Open in Autumn 2026
Summary
The University of Tokyo will launch a new experimental art school, “Arsnova,” in Autumn 2026. Arsnova aims to redefine “art” not as a single discipline, but as a totality of “techniques” for creating, sensing, and thinking, tracing back to the Latin origin of “ars.” The program seeks to reconnect diverse arts already present within the university, establishing new circuits for learning and production that span fields like engineering, agriculture, information science, and art research. Each circuit begins with collaborative experimentation rather than predetermined answers. Classes will be co-taught by multiple faculty members from different specializations, fostering a mutual learning process. Practitioners from outside the university, including artists, musicians, and engineers, will collaborate in education and production, publishing their results through a parallel publishing department. The program consists of three categories: Orientation, Cultivation, and Presentation, with the recruitment guidelines expected to be released around May 2026.
