Shinchosha's Former Publishing Warehouse Opens as Gallery Building "soko" on March 27, Housing 7 Art and Craft Galleries
Summary
As part of its 130th-anniversary project, Shinchosha is opening "soko," a gallery building converted from its former publishing warehouse in Kagurazaka, Tokyo, on March 27. The five-story concrete warehouse, built in 1959, once stored five million new books and was designated a national Registered Tangible Cultural Property as an "Industrial Heritage Site" in 2025. Supervised by architect Yoshihumi Nakamura, the space retains its rugged beams and concrete textures designed to bear the weight of books, transforming it into a hub for experiencing and materializing the content of publications.
