30 Japanese Female Photographers Gather. "Miracle of Gaze: The Adventures of Japanese Women Photographers" Exhibition to be Held at Shibuya Hikarie Hall in July
Summary
The large-scale exhibition, "Miracle of Gaze: The Adventures of Japanese Women Photographers," featuring approximately 200 works by 30 Japanese women photographers spanning from the 1950s to the present day, will be held at Hikarie Hall (Shibuya Hikarie 9F) from July 4th to August 26th. Curated by Mari Takeuchi, this exhibition is a triumphant return following the success of the globally touring show, which followed the publication of the book "I’m So Happy You Are Here." The exhibition aims to re-examine the history of Japanese photographic expression by highlighting female artists often overshadowed by their male counterparts. The display will include diverse works extending beyond traditional photography, such as installations, collages, and videos, showcasing the gaze and creativity of these photographers on themes like memory, the body, daily life, and gender. Additional collaborative projects approaching photography from various angles are also planned during the exhibition period.
