Games and Art Exhibition | Shimotsuke Shimbun Digital
Summary
Currently, there is a growing movement worldwide to re-examine games from an artistic perspective. The Museum of Modern Art (MoMA) in New York has been collecting video games since 2012, considering them as “playable design” and “interactive art experiences.” This exhibition re-evaluates historical simulation games, centering on the “Nobunaga’s Ambition” series developed by Koei Tecmo Games, which was founded in Ashikaga City, Tochigi Prefecture, within an artistic context. The exhibition aims to appreciate games not merely as entertainment or commercial products, but as “works” expressed through sophisticated design, and to explore their artistry by recognizing the interactive experience gained through gameplay as an “artistic experience = appreciation.”
