Art Basel 2026 Announces Lineup
Summary
The world-leading art fair, Art Basel 2026, will take place from June 18 to 21 at Messe Basel, featuring 290 galleries from 43 countries/regions, and the lineup details have been released. The Commission Projects will feature Nairy Baghramian and Ibrahim Mahama, both recipients of the Art Basel Award (Established Artists category). Lubov Katchatourian of MoMA PS1 will curate Unlimited for the first time, and the theme for Parcours, curated by Stefanie Hessler, will be "Conviviality."
The Galleries sector includes 232 international galleries leading the contemporary art market, with four Japanese galleries participating: Third Gallery Aya, Taka Ishii Gallery, Take Ninagawa, and Tokyo Gallery + BTAP. The Feature sector will showcase Kaori Sakana (Kotaro Nukaga) and the Hi Red Center trio (SCAI THE BATHHOUSE). The Statements sector features 18 galleries, including solo presentations by Nobutaka Aosaki (Kai Matsumiya) and Makoto Sato (KOSAKU KANECHIKA).
During the fair, major art institutions in Basel will host significant exhibitions, including a solo show by Pierre Huyghe at the Fondation Beyeler, a major retrospective of Helen Frankenthaler and a solo show by Cao Fei at the Kunstmuseum Basel, and European solo debuts for Hitoe Ellis and Li Shuang at Kunsthalle Basel.
