To commemorate the 125th anniversary of the start of operations at the Yawata Steel Works, the Kitakyushu Municipal Museum of Art is holding the exhibition, "Iron and Art: The Trajectory of Beauty Woven by the Iron Capital," until March 15th. This exhibition illuminates the accumulation of art culture born from the "Iron Capital" of Kitakyushu, focusing not only on works directly depicting iron or industry but also on how the resulting society, life, and spiritual climate connected with art. Featuring approximately 190 works, including pieces from the Nippon Steel Corporation Kyushu Steel Works collection, the display covers the city's role in modern Japanese history, featuring art from figures like Takehisa Yumeji and Murano Togo who emerged from the steel industry. The exhibition also touches upon the memory of war, showcases masterpieces by Picasso and Kojima Zensaburo, documents the International Iron and Steel Sculpture Symposium, and concludes with new works by contemporary artists reinterpreting the history and material of iron.
