[Kyoto] The 19th Venice Architecture Biennale Japan Pavilion Exhibition Homecoming Exhibition "In-Between"
Summary
The homecoming exhibition for the Japan Pavilion at the 19th Venice Architecture Biennale, titled "In-Between" (中立点|In-Between), is being held at the Kyoto City KYOCERA Museum of Art. The original exhibition in Venice (May 10–November 23, 2025) explored the future with generative AI, presenting an open dialogue space between humans and non-humans, and the environment. It uniquely featured a complementary combination of an installation in the ground-floor pilotis and external space by SUNAKI (Taichi Sunayama and Toshikatsu Kiuchi) and an installation in the second-floor gallery by Asako Fujikura and Takahiro Omura. The exhibition was curated by Jun Aoki and Tamayo Iemura. This return exhibition in Kyoto utilizes the space within the former office building (now Sakurimizu-kan) on the museum grounds, where the three entities—the curation team and the two artist teams—independently reconfigure and present their respective parts of the Venice presentation. This marks the first time a homecoming exhibition for the Japan Pavilion at the Venice Architecture Biennale has been held outside of Tokyo in both the art and architecture fields. The exhibition runs from January 24 to March 1, 2026, and admission is free.
