Commemorating 60 Years of Japan-South Korea Diplomatic Relations: Exhibition of Masterpieces of Korean Art to be Held at the Tokyo National Museum
Summary
To commemorate the 60th anniversary of the normalization of diplomatic relations between Japan and South Korea in 1965, the Tokyo National Museum is hosting an exhibition of masterpieces of Korean art, a joint project with the National Museum of Korea. This exhibition aims to showcase the diverse appeal of Korean art through the collections of both leading national museums, building upon the cooperative relationship established since their academic exchange agreement in 2002. The exhibition is divided into two parts: Chapter 1, "Goryeo—Beauty and Faith," will feature Buddhist art, celadon, and crafts from the Goryeo period, while Chapter 2, "Court Culture of the Joseon Dynasty," will introduce the richness of Joseon Dynasty culture through magnificent court paintings and clothing. The exhibition, titled "Korean Art Treasure Box—Welcoming the Collection of the National Museum of Korea," will run from February 10 to April 5, 2026, at the Special Rooms 1 and 2 of the Main Building of the Tokyo National Museum.
