Umaibo 'Contemporary Art Flavor' Sold at Auction for 1.15 Million Yen... An Art Piece That Cannot Be Opened
Summary
The "Umaibo Contemporary Art Flavor," co-developed by New York-based contemporary artist Tomokazu Matsuyama (49) and candy seller Yaokin, was sold at an SBI Art Auction in Tokyo on the 25th for 1.15 million yen (including fees). This item was created to be appreciated as a piece of art and is sealed in a transparent acrylic box that cannot be opened. The limited edition of 50 pieces, initially sold for 100,000 yen (excluding tax) each in March last year, sold out immediately. While the line drawing printed on the packaging was created by Matsuyama, the snack inside is otherwise the same as a regular Umaibo.
