Third Armor Piece Wins Grand Prize at Art Crafts Koshien; Nisshin High School Freshman Yoshimura Battles Eating Disorder
Summary
Rikuya Yoshimura, a 16-year-old first-year student at Renaissance Toyota High School in Nisshin City, won the Grand Prize at the 17th Art Crafts Koshien held last November. Yoshimura created his award-winning piece, his third armor (kacchu), over approximately eight months while undergoing treatment for an eating disorder. The winning entry was modeled after the important cultural property known as the "Iroiro Odoshi Haramaki," which is said to have been used by Mōri Motonari. The finished armor is imposing, standing about 70 centimeters tall and weighing around 8 kilograms. Yoshimura reported his achievement to Mayor Hiroki Kondo at the Nisshin City Hall on the 20th.
