The Museum of Contemporary Art Tokyo is hosting an exhibition titled 'Synchronous Constellation—Stars That Shared Time: A Gaze at Transboundary Art.' The exhibition, running from September 5 to December 13, uses the film 'The Walker on Sunday' (2015), which depicts the modernist poetry group 'Fengche Poets Society' from 1930s Taiwan, as a starting point to re-examine modern Taiwan and Japan through diverse cultural and artistic lenses. It features approximately 200 Taiwanese artworks, 500 documents, and about 100 Japanese works. The curators, including guest curator Huang Ya-li, aim to challenge the traditional view of a one-way influence from Japan to Taiwan, instead highlighting how Taiwanese artists independently translated, reinterpreted, and sometimes resisted influences to develop their own expressions. The exhibition space, designed by the Taiwanese architectural unit UxU Studio, is conceived as an immersive installation where visitors navigate a network of relationships between the artworks.
